During the season of Lent all parishioners are welcome to attend Stations of the Cross on Fridays at 7 PM beginning this Friday, March 7th.
The prayer will give us the opportunity to reflect upon the redemptive sufferings of our Lord and Savior.

Ash Wednesday is March 5th. Join us for Holy Mass with the blessing and imposition of ashes at 12 PM or 7 PM
Beginning on Ash Wednesday we are called to repent, to change our minds about the way we live our lives in the sight of God. In the reading from the Book of the Prophet Joel we will hear that he summoned everyone, young and elderly to an assembly of prayer indicating that they were repenting. Ash Wednesday summons everyone to enter into a forty-day meditation, prayer and almsgiving. We will all gather on Ash Wednesday because we know that we need to “to return to the Lord.” Prophet Joel tells us also, that we can do that only by returning with our whole hearts, that is, with a motivation that is deep inside of us. The ashes on our foreheads will indicate that we are entering in the Lenten period of change that will leave us never to be the same again.
During Lent with humble hearts we ask God to prepare us for the journey of spiritual renewal.
Fasting From Meat: During the Lenten time all of us should remember personal prayers, read the Holy Scripture and attend the liturgy of Sunday Mass.
We are called to abstain from meat on Fridays by those who are 18 years old and older. Those who are on medication or pregnant women are not obligated to abstain from meat.
As members of the PNCC we also abstain voluntarily from meat on Wednesdays.
On Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, we should fast which means intake of only one full meal and slight two meals by those who are 18 to 60 years of age.

On Sunday Jan. 26, 2025 The Holy Cross Church welcomed the newest member. Precious girl, Mila Rose Bitondo, daughter of Anthony and Romona received the Sacrament of Baptism at 11 am Holy Mass. We congratulate her parents, proud godparents Mark and Sabrina as well as grandparents, family members and friends on this special occasion.
As God made the covenant with his people so through Baptism, Jesus makes a new and everlasting covenant with his followers. As Jesus won new life for us on the cross, with the symbol of the cross, Mila was marked to receive the new life in the Lord. As the waters of the Red Sea led the people of Israel to freedom so the water of Baptism gave new life and led us to Salvation. Parents, godparents and all members of our parish pledge to help this child to grow in Christian faith.

On Christmas Eve at 4 pm we traditionally celebrated Holy Mass with our youth participation. They wear costumes of Mary, Joseph, shepherds, Three Kings, Angels and a Little Lamb. The youth served as altar servers, read the Holy Scriptures, and sang together with participants of the Mass the Silent Night with lighted candles.
We thank the youth, parents, School of Christian Living teachers, Ms. Natalie and Mr. Paul and all who helped to celebrate the Birth of Jesus in such a joyful and meaningful way.

Loving Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother & Great-Grandmother
Fay Goglia, 102, of Woodland Park, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 7th. Born in Hamburg, Germany, Fay was the daughter of the late Albert Martin and Manya (Suzgerzt) Buttkus, and lived in Ireland and England before coming to New Jersey 80 years ago. She was a WWII war bride and Holocaust survivor. She retired as a tailor – dress maker and was the owner of Fay’s Fashions in Nutley for 30 years. She was an avid knitter/crocheter who made infant hats and blankets for the homeless and hospitals for 28 years in Toms River. The beloved wife of the late Joseph Goglia, cherished mother of the late Martin Goglia and the late Theresa Tierney, and dear grandmother of the late Jonathan Vitaletti, Fay is survived by her loving daughter Mary Goglia-Vitaletti, three grandchildren Michelle, Robert, and Daniel, and four great-grandchildren. Rev. Marian Tarnowski, 81, of Clifton, NJ passed away peacefully with his loving family at his bedside on November 28th.
Born and raised in Chodorow, Poland, Fr. Tarnowski was ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1966 and came to the United States on February 15, 1985, initially serving in parishes in Riverhead and Hempstead, NY. After twenty years of Roman Catholic priesthood, Fr. Tarnowski felt that serving as a priest with the Slovak National Catholic Church was a truer calling for him and thus became a priest with Most Holy Name of Jesus SNC Cathedral in Passaic where he then served as Pastor for the next thirty-nine years before retiring in 2021.
Fr. Marian loved to play guitar and read books and always enjoyed playing a good game of chess against his son, Bogdan. Fr. Tarnowski was a great husband and a wonderful dad and had the unique ability to be a calming voice in difficult and stressful times….a humble man who tried always to do right and teach life to his family and parishioners.
Rev. Tarnowski was predeceased by his loved and missed parents, Michal and Franciszka (nee Szerenga) Tarnowski as well as by his dear brother, Jan Tarnowski. He is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-nine years, Grazyna (nee Okula) Tarnowski, of Clifton; by his two loving and devoted children, Bogdan and Beata Tarnowski, both also of Clifton; and by his dear sister, Kazmiera Wilk, of Poland..
Visiting Hours will be Sunday from 3-7pm with a Wake Service to be held at 4pm at Holy Cross parish, 220 Browertown Road, Woodland Park, NJ. Funeral Monday at 10:30am at Holy Cross parish with committal to follow at East Ridgelawn Cemetery, Clifton. F

Our annual Advent Tree project began on the 1st Sunday of Advent, December 1st. Through our efforts we will benefit the less fortunate of our community. You are asked to take a tag from the tree and write your name in the registry located near the tree. Please affix the copy of the tag you take from the tree to your gift so that the present may be given to the proper individual. All gifts will be due on Sunday, December 15th. Your generosity will be appreciated and rewarded by the Lord who asks us to take care of the needy.
