Food Pantry Update

We collected 16 bags of groceries, $35 cash, and we also donated 4 large bags of clothing last week! We thank all those who fulfilled our Savior’s command – “Whatever you do to the least of my brothers, you have done it to me.” (Matthew 25:40).

The Next Food Drive will take place on Sunday June 13, 2010. It is the same Sunday as our parish picnic. Please continue to support and show your concern for the needy of our community. THANK YOU!

Food Collection for the Fr. English Food Bank

Sunday, May 9th — All parishioners were asked to bring a bag of groceries to church on this day. Children were asked to bring imperishable food items and place them in the basket in front of the altar during the offertory of the Mass.

Won’t you help the needy in the name of Christ the Savior? “Whatever you do to the least of my brothers, you have done it to me.” (Matthew 25:40). In the case you were not able to bring imperishable food items, you can still make a monetary donation for that cause. Please use envelopes from the vestibule of the church and write memo – for Food Pantry.

Shopping Certificates

The easiest way to support our Building Fund is by purchasing weekly shopping certificates. The shopping certificates you can use also as gift cards for any occasion. The Building Fund is needed to finance any future repairs and maintenance of our facility.

Certificates are available for STOP & SHOP, A&P, PATHMARK, FOODTOWN and SHOPRITE. Every time you use one of these cards to purchase your groceries you are helping your church at no cost to you. For example, if you purchase $100 in certificates each week, The Parish receives $5 each time and in one year you will be contributing about $250 to the building fund. Please encourage other members of the Parish and friends to join in this wonderful project. If you have any questions, call Lucy Daum 973-694-9457, or Merry Sleece 973-731-3611.

Thank you for your support.

Fasting – we are called to abstain from meat on Fridays by those who are 14 years old and older. On Good Friday additionally we should fast which means intake of one full meal by those who are 18 to 60 years of age.

Devotions – Also, we are invited to attend Lenten Devotions to reflect on the redemptive sufferings and death of our Lord on Fridays at 7:30 P.M.

February 26, 2010 – Bitter Lamentations #1
March 5, 2010 – Stations of the Cross
March 12, 2009 – Bitter Lamentations #2
March 19,2010– Stations of the Cross
March 26, 2010 – Bitter Lamentations #3
Good Friday at 3:00 P.M. – Stations of the Cross with children

Lenten Giving – Our parish traditionally uses the Alms Box in the vestibule of the church for the benefit of the poor. Please continue to support this great cause to help the less fortunate of our society. “When you give alms, your left hand must not know what your right is doing – your almsgiving must be secret, and your father who sees all that is done in secret will reward you.” (Matthew 6:3-4)

SOS – Haiti Earthquake Update

Last Sunday’s donations totaled $147. The Parish Committee has decided that all donations will go to support the “Doctors Without Borders Foundation” for the Haiti Earthquake Relief. Envelopes are located in the vestibule of the church if you would like to help those affected by the earthquake on January 12, 2010. On that day, the capital city of Haiti – Port-au-Prince, close towns and villages, were affected by this terrible and deadly 7.1 magnitude earthquake which killed an estimated 200,000 people, injured 250,000 individuals, and left 1.5 million homeless.

On January 19, 2010 the Herald News had an article about the Haitian Bethel Church of the Nazarene in Paterson which assembles imperishable food, clothing and supplies for those in need. My wife and I recently went there to deliver some clothing, food items and toys (left from the last year’s Flea Market). We were warmly welcomed by the assistant pastor of that parish and informed that they already shipped two large containers through the Dominican Republic to Haiti. Those who wish to donate any imperishable food items, light clothing, and supplies may bring them directly to that church or call Jean Claude Douge at 201-654-5671. If you are unable to take your items to that church, you may drop them off in our parish hall. The Parish Committee members will assist in delivering your donations to Haitian Bethel Church, Paterson.
